L’Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY) a repris le flambeau d’une longue tradition britannique de photos sous-marines : BSUP (Brighton Underwater Festival) fondée en 1965. Lancée en 2015, la première édition de l’UPY avait recueilli plus de 2 500 photos en provenance de plus de 40 pays. Pour cette troisième édition de 2017, le succès se confirme avec plus de 4 500 images venant de plus de 67 pays.
